This project started a little over 2... or was it 3 years ago with the idea of designing THE CAGE and seeing if it could hold a weak windowed main 403 block together so that we could take advantage of that big bore and build a big cubic inch small block Oldsmbile that would rev hard and make good power. After the first dyno session we were very happy with the power on tap. However a mad scientist desision was made to pull the top end to add some compression, enlarge the ports slightly, reduce plenum volume to make it even better. Now the power is down right impressive with a huge power band for any engine, much less an Oldsmobile.


403 Block - 4.375 bore, pistons .003 in the hole, square decked to 9.310, polished lifter valley, oil restrictors in lifter bores, lifter valley drains plugged except for front and rear (had to drill the rear), filled to 1.5" below deck
330 Crank - Stroked to 3.850, Lightened, Honda rod, IPN, 56lbs (stock was 64lbs)
JMRE/RIF RAF's THE CAGE - set up for dry sump
Carrillo rods - Out of a Hendrick car, 6", Honda big end, .866 small end, 3/8" CARR bolts
Custom Wiseco pistons - all the extra features…in their words, a pro stock piston less the full billet, turbo pin
Total Seal rings - Tool steel top, AP second, std tension oil, .043/.043/3.0mm

The power production of this thing is amazing with 670HP+ (25hp or less from peak) from 6000rpm all the way out to 7500rpm. Its no slouch on torque either with 570FtLbs+ (25FtLbs or less from peak) starting at 4700rpm up to 6300rpm. With a power band like this there is plenty of room for rpm drop between shits and then some.
